Thinking about selling t-shirts as a beginner artist? It might be worth pausing before you stock up. T-shirts look like an obvious product for artists, but they come with hidden challenges that can drain your time, money, and energy before you ever see a real profit. 👕💸 A lot of new artists jump into t-shirts because they seem like a “must-have” product, but the reality of running a t-shirt business is way more complicated than just slapping a design on a blank. After years as a graphic designer and artist, here are 3 reasons I think beginner artists should hold off on selling t-shirts: 1️⃣ Sizes: You can’t just stock one option. Customers expect everything from XS to 3XL, which means guessing demand for each size and risking dead inventory in sizes that don’t sell. 2️⃣ Colors: Offering your design in multiple shirt colors multiplies your costs fast. Every color you add is another stack of inventory you have to buy, store, and hope sells. 3️⃣ Minimum order quantities: To actually make t-shirts profitable per unit, you usually need to buy in bulk, which means a big upfront investment before you even know if your design will sell. That doesn’t mean t-shirts are off the table forever. It just means there are smarter, lower-risk products to start with while you’re still learning what your audience actually wants to buy. Would you still try selling t-shirts as a beginner, or skip them for now? Let me know in the comments! 👇 Follow for more tips on graphic design, art business, and growing your brand as a digital artist. 🚀 #artist #artbusiness #graphicdesign #artistsoftiktok #designer
