@making_senseofit_w.katt: When you cut a parent off for years and then come back expecting the conversation to center only your experience, you’re ignoring the reality that there was impact on the other side too, because distance doesn’t just protect you, it affects them, and real repair doesn’t happen on one person’s terms, it doesn’t happen through control, and it doesn’t happen by bypassing the damage that was done, so if you’re returning after years of no contact, you don’t get to dictate the pace, the tone, or the response, because once there are two realities in the room, it’s no longer just about you, and if the goal is real repair, it starts with recognizing the full impact, not just the part that felt yours.#fyp #narcissist #accountability #estranged #nocontact

Why do adult children think we should be that perfect parent? Every one of our kids is different and need to be parented differently and news flash, they didn’t come with a manual! We are doing the best with what we have while trying to learn and grow to be better humans ourselves.

I don’t think she was prepared for the reality check she got.

I’m a family practitioner and I can tell you this—we NEED estrangement practitioners in the field, not more therapists. If you’ve been wounded please reach out to me. Use your experiences to help parents survive this disenfranchised grief.

As a mom who’s son went no contact last year - this is not his first time - he comes back when he needs something or feels he can benefit from me. I’m a person, with feelings - not someone that can be used at will & then labeled “terrible”. At this point, I fully understand the mom in this situation. I’ve taken accountability for not being the perfect parent, it wasn’t good enough for him. I can’t do anything more about it & next time he comes back I’m going to tell him the same thing. I can’t keep going through this. It’s painful.

I don't know the situation, but some parents never make an effort to even acknowledge what they did wrong. You are assuming a lot.

Verbatim her letter, being very careful to address inflection and intention, and then quickly summarizes her mother’s response. Yeah, not genuine at all.

I’m so glad that this is starting to be a topic of conversation. I’ve seen so many times people post videos saying they are no contact and I can’t sympathize with it because I have to have both sides of the story. The biggest red flag in her video for me was when she said she would read her mother’s response but didn’t read it verbatim. She’s gotten a lot of backlash for this video

My middle sister went no contact with my parents. The reasons always changed why. Now my mom has ALS and my sister has said that she will attend her funeral when the time comes. My youngest sister and I have very strong feelings about that, after seeing the pain our middle sister has caused our parents.

It’s hard to go back when you have mourned the loss already! The diatance my daughter created has allowed me to rediscover myself, evaluate the mistakes I made as a mother but also the things I would not change if I could. I love her and my grandchildren and miss them very much but with the lies and hateful mean things that were said I have accepted the loss, mourned, still miss them but I am right there with this momma!!!!

My son left 6 years ago with his girlfriend, and I felt like I lost him, and now idk how I would respond. Why do we have to accept them for who they are, but they dont accept us who we are? Im here backing you momma!

I think no contact is some kind of "generational trend". Just walk away and say "no contact". This happened to me about 12 yrs ago. I'm O.K. now but I wasn't always. There's not room here to write my book but I could. I moved on (I had to). I have joy and peace with my other child and grandchildren.

According to my son, we never did anything right. I have cried and prayed, analyzing every decision. He moved, we don’t know where he is. But I finally realized this is his problem. I always put my children before my own needs. I still pray for him every night but I will no longer apologize for how I raised him. I gave my best and so did his Dad.

I could never imagine going no contact with my mom. Was she perfect, no, but I’m not either. She loves with every fiber of her being. If there is ever a disagreement, maybe a day or two no talking, but I NEED my mama. I’m 47 and married and will always need my mom!!

Wow. I told my daughter there is nothing I can say to satisfy her. That as long as she continues to look for the negative in everything I say, we will get nowhere. I followed that with, we will continue to live our lives without you. That was 2 years ago.
