The guy asked her "is your language similar to other languages, is it from a language family?" and she answers "yes and no"?! Incredible! Romanian is from the Latin language family and is related to all romance languages, I really don't know where you found that person. There is no paradox about Romania.

Romania is a Balkan country.Romanian isn't that different it has a latin base which is similar to Italian,Portuguese and people who know french and Spanish can learn easily because so many words are same .

Bună dimineaţa gave it away for me. I worked with a Romanian lady for a few years. she taught me a few greetings, especially that one as we worked in the mornings together. I miss her dearly. super, sweet lady.

Romanian was my first thought because a lot of the romance languages have some variant of "salut"
