"I connect to public wifis" Brutal. opsec level: invisible to society The evolution of web browsers based on operational security (opsec) and privacy levels: Tier 01 - The Mainstream NPC Tier • Chrome, Edge, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer • You accept every cookie prompt without reading it, your RAM is crying, and big tech knows what you had for breakfast. Tier 02 - The Privacy Aware Beginner • Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, DuckDuckGo, Arc • You installed an adblocker, switched search engines, and felt like a elite hacker for 5 minutes. Tier 03 - The Hardened Privacy Enthusiast • Tor Browser, Mullvad Browser, LibreWolf, Waterfox, Ungoogled Chromium • You route traffic through multiple relays, clear cache every 10 minutes, and panic when JavaScript is enabled. Tier 04 - The Open Source Academic • IceCat, Pale Moon, GNOME Web, Ladybird, Iridium • You compile your browser from source, read the underlying C++ codebase, and reject mainstream web standards. Tier 05 - The Digital Phantom / Ghost • Naenara, Ceno Browser, Flock, Browsh, Dillo • You view the web entirely through text terminal interfaces, peer-to-peer routing, or air-gapped networks. You do not exist on the public internet. Which level of opsec are you currently sitting on? Every tech enthusiast goes through the exact same web browser pipeline, whether they want to admit it or not. You start out completely innocent as a kid in Tier 01 using default tools like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Opera, or even the ancient memory of Internet Explorer. Back in those days, you didn't care about telemetry, background tracking, data brokers, or RAM usage. You just wanted to watch videos and play web browser games without worrying about memory leaks or cookie consent banners. Then one day, you watch a single video about online privacy, and suddenly you step into Tier 02. You download Mozilla Firefox or Brave, toggle on strict tracking protection, and set DuckDuckGo or Vivaldi as your default search engine. Maybe you try out Arc Browser for the aesthetic productivity layout. You start telling your friends to stop using mainstream browsers because you think you have completely off-grid opsec. However, the rabbit hole goes much deeper. Once you realize that basic privacy settings are just the surface level, you descend into Tier 03. This is where the real paranoia sets in. You start running LibreWolf or Ungoogled Chromium to strip out every piece of telemetry. You run Waterfox for legacy compatibility, or you route your entire workflow through Mullvad Browser and the Tor network. At this stage, websites start breaking constantly because you disabled WebGL, canvas fingerprinting, and basic scripts. But you don't care, because privacy comes first. If you keep going, you hit Tier 04. At this point, mainstream engines are dead to you. You are running GNU IceCat, Pale Moon, GNOME Web (Epiphany), Iridium, or following the modern development of Ladybird. You spend more time configuring your user stylesheets and tweaking flags than actually browsing the web. Finally, you reach Tier 05: total digital anonymity. You aren't even using a traditional graphical browser anymore. You are browsing the web inside a terminal using Browsh, rendering raw HTML through lightweight engines like Dillo, relying on peer-to-peer routing with Ceno Browser, or experimenting with niche niche environments like Naenara and Flock. You wear sunglasses indoors, your terminal text is bright green, and the algorithm has zero idea who you are. #linux #privacy #opsec #fyp #meme
