It's so draining to make excuses for someone's low effort only to watch them give 100% to friends, family, or work. Seeing the capacity exists is hurtful, but it gives you the closure you need to stop waiting.

Would drop anything to go help anyone…literally drop everything, give the shirt off his back and his last 5 bucks to an acquaintance, but was so late to my graduation that he didn’t get there till it was over. His kids were his last priority. He died 15 years ago and I still get mad at him.

Yessss. When I pointed this out in my last relationship, my ex had the audacity to ASK ME if I’m okay with him helping some girl out. I was like „that wasn’t the point?!”. Long story short, he still didn’t have a capacity to show up for me in that relationship so I left.
