A bit of a vulnerable post: My husband was working late night and I thought of this brilliant idea to tire my dog out. “My husband is going to be proud of me, I’m brave enough to take Vader to an open field by myself” Where we live is extremely humid, even at 8pm, which is the time I took Vader to the football field. I took the Chuckit Ball and the launcher and had Vader run up and down the field and was amazed at how fast he was able to keep up. My mistake was not letting him rest between each throw. I had him run up and down the field about 15 times before I called it quits bc I realized how hard he was breathing. I put the leash back on him and we walked back to my car. He sat and just peed. “WOW he’s REALLY tired”. Drove back to our apartment and I opened the back door for him to jump out… he jumped out but then completely collapsed on the ground. I couldn’t get him to stand. I carried him up 3 flights of stairs. Laid him on the cold floor of the apartment and blew a fan towards him and just let him rest. He laid there for about 30 min. Then he was back to his normal self. I put him to bed for the rest of the night. And I’m sure he was super sore the next day. It scared me so badly. I wish I had stopped sooner, but I learned a huge lesson that night: just because your dog is willing to keep going doesn’t mean they should. Please be careful exercising your dogs in the heat and humidity, give them plenty of breaks, and pay attention to the signs they’re giving you. I’m incredibly grateful I stopped when I did. #fyp #belgianmalinois
