I think they’ve done it to establish the “under the arena” chapter of the book. It makes it clear there is a whole machine behind the arena that can be broken not just rooms and corridors.

I love this because I always thought of SOTR as a story about when the machine fails, and by machine I mean the Capitol, the Games, the Arena, the Districts etc. from start to finish we saw how many cracks had formed in society from the Peacekeepers inability to control the D12 reaping, to Snow’s health, and the uneasiness of the Capitol and the flawed arena/leadership issues, and getting to see more of the Arena being presented as part of that machine is a great way to reinforce the message of the story!

They are really trying to put emphasis on the system that the area is built on and I think it compliments and adds layers to the story that you can reallly only do through visual media

it does slightly irritate me how when they are in the arena the pedestals form a perfect circle but as the are rising we can see gaps at the corners, but I’ll let it slide 🤣
