I don't know about this one in the bay area right now, with the prices and the current rate. What we are currently renting would basically cost us almost double for the mortgage, not considering other costs you have as an owner. And it not really a "dream house" we would like to stay long term - those would cost like 3 times as much. We feel like we are better of renting and investing the difference - so then in 5-10 years we have actual liquid capital to buy something.
