Separate from any gov influence, we are just at the "enshitification" phase of the platform. It happens to all of them, they spend x years building a good product with good algorithms to build up their user base as large as possible, then switch over to monetization. We are heavily in that phase on TT today. This happened to FB, Insta, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr... all of them. We are not the customers of these platforms, we are the product for the real customers - advertisers.

I'm SICK of the amount of ads and they're mostly AI slop now. I'm also feeling itchy feet on this app now... you're right it's totally going through the same slopification that Facebook went through

both sides of the fence :
The internet was primarily invented and developed by the Baby Boomer generation and, to a lesser extent, the Silent Generation, beginning in the 1960s and 1970s. Key creators like Vint Cerf (born 1943) and Bob Kahn (born 1938) developed foundational protocols (TCP/IP) in the 1970s, while Tim Berners-Lee (born 1955) developed the World Wide Web in 1989.
1960s-1970s (The Inventors): Thinkers of the Silent Generation and early Baby Boomers initiated ARPANET, the military-funded precursor to the internet, aimed at secure, decentralized data sharing.
1980s (The Builders): Core protocols like TCP/IP were developed, allowing different networks to communicate.
1990s (The Expanders): The web became public, largely utilized and expanded by Gen X and early Millennials, who turned it from a research tool into a public utility

Social media are no longer social media. They are short form content platforms. Social media used to be about connecting and sharing with people, now they are about consuming content
