im a beekeeper, and a lot of times the worker bees will make multiple queens and the queens will emerge and fight. toughest one wins and becomes queen. also if some of the workers have remained loyal to an old queen, the hive will split and half will leave with their chosen queen.

WAIT THERE'S MORE! There's nothing special in royal jelly that makes a bee a queen bee. It's actually the absence of a compound. The rest of the bees eat food that contains a substance that suppresses growth. The queen bee just doesn't eat the thing that keeps most bees non-queen.

Yeah, but being a queen bee is such a exhausting job. All she does is stay inside and pop eggs while the other bees have the luxury to leave the nest and go smell some flowers. I rather be a regular bee than a queen bee.

Beekeeper here with another queen bee fact. After a new queen is hatched, she is a “virgin queen” until she goes on her mating flight. She flies out, followed by most of the drones and has a little *o r g y* in a nearby tree, and then she is PREGNANT FOR LIFE! From that one mating flight, she can produce over 2,000 eggs per day for the next 5-6 years!
