@drderrickphillips: Perioral dermatitis isn’t acne, rosacea or eczema — but it’s often mistaken for all three. It typically presents as small red bumps and dry scaly patches around the mouth, nose or eyes, and can be triggered by: • topical steroids • overuse of active ingredients • heavy or occlusive skincare Treating it like acne or eczema can actually make it worse. The key is to simplify your routine, support the skin barrier and, in some cases, use prescription treatment. It can take time to settle, so patience and consistency are important. #skincaretips #skinhealth #dermatologist

I've suffered with this since 2021 and I've been managing. It comes and goes. I realized that long water only fasting is a trigger. I try to mitigate it as much as I can. I haven't had a flare up in a while (8 months) which is a victory. And no, I don't use make up, no skin care routine, nothing. But I can say this issue actually made me start using sunscreen, because as a black African person, I was never taught to use it.
