TumeloMOG :
hello, I’d really appreciate your advice on this. I’m trying to figure out whether AI Product Management is the right career direction for me, and more importantly, what I’m actually missing to become hireable.
My background is a little unconventional. I’ve been building apps using AI-native and no-code/low-code tools rather than traditional software development. I use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Figma, Base44, Lovable, FlutterFlow, Supabase and AI coding/building tools to take an idea or problem, turn it into product requirements, structure the user flows and features, prototype it, and then use AI to help build and iterate the actual working product. I’m comfortable communicating with AI agents to get products built and troubleshooting and refining what they produce rather than manually coding everything from scratch.
I’ve built several products, including an education/learning app focused on active recall and the Feynman “Teach It Back” method, a habit-tracking app, budgeting/financial products, PDF tools, and other app concepts. I’m currently also doing product discovery work where I’m conducting research, defining problems, writing PRDs, developing hypotheses, creating interview questions, analysing user feedback and thinking through MVPs and product decisions.
What I’m trying to understand is where this puts me professionally. I’m not trying to become a traditional software engineer, and I don’t want to go back into pure UI/UX design. I’m much more interested in the product side — identifying problems, deciding what should be built, working with AI to accelerate development, understanding users, defining requirements, and turning ideas into usable products.
So my question is: Based on this background, what would I need to add to realistically become hireable as an AI Product Manager? And if AI PM isn’t the best fit yet, what other product role would you recommend I pursue based on the skills I already have?
