I’m soooo big on not forcing kids to give adults affection, telling kids to “give everyone a kiss/cuddle goodbye” it’s makes me feel so uncomfortable as an adult, like tell them to say “good bye” but give me a wave, a high 5, a fist bump.

the school attendance things winds me up to no end, like yeh of course if your child is able to go to school most days but aren’t for whatever reason then it will affect their education, but ur kid not getting 100% attendance bc they were sick a few days or had a few days off bc they were feeling crappy is really not going to make an impact

My child I pushed for 100% attendance hoping for acknowledgement, there was absolutely no mention of it. This year I've allowed a mental health day and the pressure is off ❤️

As a mummy of a medical child (and also an SEN teacher), 100% attendance is absolutely ridiculous 😳 we should be encouraging life experiences! x

even as a teacher, I understand not wanting 100% attendance. you only get them this little once, as long as they're in school most of the time and you're putting in the graft at home to catch them up. I think life is about living

from someone who works in SpEd- YES to letting kids get bored!!! kids need downtime in their brain. it's good for them. it gets their creativity working, it gives their brain time to process information and rest. they need to get bored. they need to learn how to sit in some discomfort- like being bored, or the frustration that comes from not getting instant gratification.

The most of my creativity was born out of boredom when I was a child. I made up songs, stories, poems even and to create my own little things made me feel proud!

I actually walked past a mum in the shops recently respond to their kid being like im borreeeedd with “it’s okay it’s good to be bored sometimes” and I was like word thats what’s up

Why don’t you give them a sentence to say for the hug thing so they can advocate for themselves too? Like “nice to see you, can we do a high five?!”

Thank you for this perspective on boredom in children. This Easter holidays I’ve been stressing that the kids are bored because we’ve been quite restricted on doing things but you made me reflect on all the times they DID problem solve and got creative. definitely need a part 2 🥰
