@missclairebenjamin: How to handle receiving an unfair performance review Receiving a bad performance review out of the blue when there were no indicators it was going to be bad can feel extremely unfair. It can be difficult to know how best to handle the situation and it can also be challenging not to react emotionally. As demonstrated in this video, if the decision has already been made the best thing you can do is focus on what you have control over. This includes: 1- Making them aware that this has come as a surprise and why (without being defensive) 2- Agree together very specific goals to ensure you are clearly aligned and that can easily be measured 3- Put in place regular touch points where you can proactively seek feedback going forward and address any concerns Be sure to document everything. 💬 What else would you add based on your experience to navigate a situation like this? What about unfair ratings cos they literally can’t allow too many people hitting the top score. Even the small few who genuinely deserve it. I tried addressing that but nobody listened 🤣

Andrew J. Miller :
I had something like this happen to me the first year in my previous role the delivered metrics hit no issues raised nothing brought up as an issue. I was told a 3 out 5 was good and 4 out 5 was great but you should always try to do better. So I said why does 5 exist if Jesus Christ himself can’t achieve it. They found a way to give me the score next year…
