This is so responsible and more people should do this! It’s the childcare costs that worry my husband and I at the moment, we could cover a year of mat leave but then I don’t know how we’d pay daycare without it stopping us being able to save/invest, which is a non negotiable for us

For anyone saying you don’t need to save money, most do. I managed to have 13 months off work and I saved £15,000 before I went off work. Yes you get paid but most of it is SMP which if you have a mortgage etc is not feasible. I also wanted to still live as much as my former lifestyle as before hand. Yes my partner was still working and would contribute more but I wanted to have my own money

I did this! I had $20k saved to have my second. Even with paid maternity leave, I did need the buffer. This took me to 18 months off with no financial stress. You’re doing the right thing by prepping 🤝

you are never financially ready but some how you just make it work. If id have worked out it was going to cost 72k in nursery for 2 kids id never have done it.

Don’t worry too much about money, focus on actually having the baby. For all you know you might struggle to conceive then you wasted all this time planning for the perfect scenario. Turns out there isn’t a perfect scenario. That little baby will be all you need the money will come and go. You also get 9 months to save, we got rid of the cars all other expenses that we didn’t need then I worked my ass off on overtime. Have the baby the money will come.

This is EXACTLY how I’ve been feeling it’s crazy. Especially being 28 I just feel like my body clock is ticking away and I feel so frustrated and guilty that I feel like I’m not doing enough but the NHS maternity pay is only 2 months full pay and then half then SMP which wouldn’t even come close to my bills and I never want to go int debt or take loans etc either but I just want to be financially stable to have a baby as in every other aspect of life, me and my fiancé are right there 🥲🥲 thank you so much for talking about this 🥰

We’re currently saving! I only get SSP 😭 We will have £6000, which I’m going to spread over the 9 months but my wage will still be around £550 less that what I currently get

I am due in November and I am "the breadwinner". Mu husband works 2 jobs. We are hoping to save £7k by the time baby is here but we didn't save anything before trying. We have no idea financially how this will work but we are going to try our best and will probably get some things secondhand. Following you to see if you can find any tips on how to save bit more money on your journey xx

me and my wife did this for both ours, saved enough for bills for the full 12 months and a monthly spending pot to allow for extras like baby classes and days out, made her mat leave so much better, allowed her to enjoy it as much as she possibly could while reducing the stress (as much as you can reduce stress with a new born and being shattered) I'd always advise anyone who is able to to do the same, obviously appreciate not everyone can

Do you not get maternity pay still? 🙂I’m saving £3500 to have 3 months unpaid leave so I can take the year, my pay and SMP will cover me until that comes round x

If you’re having a baby you and your partner shouldn’t approach bills as your half and his, you guys should be a team. Life is not 50/50. We had to dip into our savings for me whilst on mat leave and took out £20k each time but really that was to maintain our living standards etc.
