@odasparsons: We visited Edinburgh Castle and saw this very small chapel. The Chapel of St. Margaret is the chapel inside Edinburgh Castle. It is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, dating back to the early 12th century (around 1130 AD), built by King David I in honor of his mother, Queen Margaret, who was later canonized as a saint. Key facts: • It’s a tiny, simple Romanesque-style chapel, seating only about 30 people • St. Margaret herself died in the castle in 1093 • It was rediscovered in the 19th century after being used as a gunpowder store for centuries • Today it’s still used for weddings and private services, and fresh flowers are maintained by a dedicated guild • It sits at the highest point of the castle rock It’s a remarkably intimate and historic space given its surroundings! #StMargaretsChapel #EdinburghCastle #Edinburgh #Scotland #VisitScotland
