I recently sat at CDG airport after checkin not realising we had passport control to do and very nearly missed our flight due to queues 🤦🏼♀️and that was before all this!

I haven’t experienced EES yet but I’m guessing the main problem is same as it’s always been: 12 passport control booths and they only open 2 of them less than an hour before your flight leaves.

I used the kiosk in Berlin and still had to wait almost 3 hours and get my passport stamped! So I wouldn’t be hopeful on kiosks speeding things up😅

Apparently just out : EES being relaxed until September & can be used intermittently until then .While the system is live, member states have legal flexibility to partially suspend biometric checks for up to 90 days, with a possible 60-day extension, to manage congestion through the summer. This allows countries to ease or pause checks until as late as September 2026 to avoid long queues

Those kiosks don’t actually make things quicker hence why a lot of places have stopped using them . They have been causing insane issues and queues ! Happned to me and my partner in Tenerife . Ended up missing our flight bc of it . There was no way of us making our flight 20+ people missed the same flight for same issue

But what is on time? Some airports have little to no facilities after border control, and as you mentioned, sometimes gates are not called in enough time to account for large queues

Queued for almost 2 hours to get through passport control last Friday. 3 booth open. And we were “close” to the front! The queue was going back through the departures. This was when 2 UK flights were heading out close together

I thought the idea was if you did fingerprints once (at any Schengen port) you didn’t need to do it again. Any idea why they keep on asking you to do fingerprints?
