Hello, hello! It’s Black Rose again! This is a short video about rhyming words with the ending tone in the language of Hmong in the dialect of Mong Leng. It’s going to help you understand and remember the rhymes of the words that have the ending tone that have a special sound to help you read and write in Mong Leng. Please remember that the Mong Leng language is a tonal language. A tone marker appears at the end of the word creating a special sound. In the Hmong writing all words do not write as compound words and the tones, b, g, j, MUST never be used in front of a word at any time that makes the writing unique. So read the terms and the story below to find out what the tone sound made. Tones: b, d, g, j, m, s, v Notes: For the tone “s” is called “cim mus, s” as in White Hmong dialect because in Mong Leng, there’s no word to describe this tone “s”. Ending tone: s Writing Formula B: consonant+vowel+tone= word os, word Families: 1. qos, potatoe (q+o+s= qos) 2. dlhos, fixed (dlh+o+s= dlhos) 3. cos, a knot, or bump (c+o+s= cos) Ib zaaj keeb kwm txug raab hlau: Tug quas puj has tas, “Oh, taag kig nuas kuv npaaj moog khawb qos ntxuv ntxuv. Tsi tau pum kev. Kuv nthos tau raab hlau moog khawb qos. Wb lug txug tsev, kuv muab ib kaaj ntawb lug khi kuv tug quas yawg lub qhov nqaj to, ua ib lub cos kuam tsi txhob hle. Ces wb lub nyob ib nub dlawb dlawb tsi ua dlaab tsi le os.” A story of an iron hoe: The lady said, “Oh, this morning, I am going to dig potatoes. I grabbed a hoe to go dig the potatoes. When I reached the field, the head of my hoe came loose. I tried every way to pull it out, but couldn't. I called my husband to come pull it out, and when he arrived, he grabbed the hoe firmly. Why did the hoe suddenly slip and hit his foot, making a deep cut? So we rushed back home without even bothering to dig any sweet potatoes.” Indeed, all afternoon not a single sweet potato was dug. When we arrived home, I took a piece of cloth to bind my husband’s bleeding wound, making a bandage so it wouldn't bleed. So we spent the whole day resting quietly, doing nothing at all.” 🥔A Poem of an iron hoe: I hurried out to dig the potatoes, Blind to the path, my mind in flight, A rusted hoe grasped in haste. Arriving at the silent field, The stubborn blade refused to yield— Loose upon its wooden bed, It mocked the strength of heart and head. I called my husband to my side, To pull the iron where it lied; With one firm grip, he gave a yank, And fate struck deep into his shank. The sharp edge bit, the crimson bled, The harvest left unmined, unsaid; We fled the furrow, dropped the spade, With every earthy plan unmade. Now bound in white, his foot still, We rest against the quiet hill; A hollow day, a wasted sun, Where work began and naught was done. Translation of the introduction by the lady in the video into English: My potatoes looked healthy and it looked like I’m going to get a lot of potatoes. I dug them and I got a lot of them.” The introduction by the lady in the video in Hmong: Tus quas puj has tas, “Xyoo nuav yog ib xyoos zoo zoo. Kuv cov qos mas zoo heev le. Kuv tuaj saib ntxim le ntug heev. Caag kuv muab khawb, ntsu kawg nkaus le.”
