Your preop assessment should also include asking the patient if they have any limitations physically, and this should be tailored to the type of case you are doing. For example, asking a patient who is getting a carotid endarterectomy if they can move their heads back or to the side will help you determine their range of motion in their neck and what will feel comfortable for them. If there are restrictions to what they can do, then you will need to adjust to their ability so they don’t wake up from surgery in pain from positioning past their limitations. #surgery #healthcare #nurse
