If I’m correct the only reason why the guide book stated that Sonic needed the help of shadow and silver to beat Solaris was the fact that Solaris was omnipresent as well it being stated that defeating him in this timeline would do nothing which was stated by Eggman (or at least in the English translation). So I mean it’s kinda what you already said so I believe that would make it more accurate. That’s just me though.

i think what they meant to say about sonic beating solaris was basically he has the power to beat him but since sonic himself is not in the past and future while fighting the present solaris he cannot win without others fighting the other solaris existing in those states of time. basically if sonic could clone himself and fight the other 2 solaris he could win by himself but since that isn't possible he needs shadow and silver to fight them so solaris won't just comeback after defeating 1 of them.
