Here’s what’s happening: You’re experiencing actual withdrawal. Your nervous system is in crisis mode. This is why breakups feel physically painful because they are. Your chest feels tight. You can’t eat or can’t stop eating. Sleep won’t come or it’s all you want. Everything reminds you of them. You’re not broken. You’re heartbroken. And there’s a difference. Heartbreak means you loved deeply and now they’re gone and your body is processing that loss. Grief has its own timeline. Not the one your friends think. Not the one you wish. The one it actually takes. So let yourself feel it. Don’t rush it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should be over it by now. But here’s what I also need you to know: One day you’ll wake up and they won’t be the first thing you think about. One day you’ll hear a song that used to wreck you and just feel neutral. One day you’ll go a whole day without thinking about them. And eventually you’ll realize you survived the thing you were convinced would end you. You didn’t just survive. You rebuilt. You learned what you actually need. You learned what you won’t settle for. You learned you can lose someone and still be okay. Your heart will heal. And when it does, you’ll be stronger than before.
