@amber.mariee44: (2x speed) it’s a sad day when teachers feel the need to warn students of their own teachers #teacher #haleybeck #teachertok #teacherlife
It’s ok for a student to confide in a teacher. It’s NOT ok for a teacher to confide in a student.

Physical touch depends on grade. I teach kinder and they are obsessed with hugs and telling you they love you. That’s just the reality of the age.

Physical touch depends on circumstance. I do fist bumps.

A hug once in a blue moon due to a horrible day is different than hugging every time they see you….

babysitting and offering to hang out outside of school/daycare is so inappropriate to me.

teachers never initiate touch. sometimes yeah a student needs a side hug or something, it always should be started by the student and kept short by the teacher.

I definitely think some of these things are age specific. In grade one hugs, high-fives, holding hands etc is extremely common and typically not seen in an inappropriate way. I know you are probably directing this toward older grades but thought I’d share.

Big one: teachers should never think it’s okay to berate you! You are a person. Attacking you verbally is never ever okay, especially when one is in a clear position of power (P.S there’s a big difference between constructive criticism, establishing boundaries, and berating)

I think it’s tough the way teachers are viewed-because kids share WAY more with us than we share with them. Some skits I see on social media make it seem like teachers are overly friendly, when it’s really the kid who’s sharing a lot.

teachers are allowed to have a life outside of school, but that doesn’t mean students need to know about it

I especially love what you said about compliments. Compliments should be about choices (choice of outfit, haircut, nails, hat, etc) never about body or looks.

it’s okay to be friendly and talkative with your teachers, but they are not your peers. that has to be remembered.

Our teacher gave us her number in case of emergency during a three day hiking trip, and I think that's a reasonable exception

Heads up on the feeding / buying things. I have kids who are hungry. I have kids who wear the same ill fitting clothing day after day, and not buy choice. I have often kept food in my room for them, and have purchased clothing for entire families. Circumstances can be different for different people.

And if a teacher happens to make you uncomfortable and you tell them that, the only appropriate response is I'm so sorry and never ever doing it again
