@alexisanddean: Replying to @anloapnebi If oil is a global commodity and sold for the same price to everyone, why does gas price vary so much state to state? #TikTokLearningCampaign #EduTok #todayilearned #gasprices #oil
Why is gas so cheap overseas than the united state??

Yeah those taxes are killer. California has almost double in taxes alone per gallon than the national average.

So, does it really matter if US produces so much oil, but the end consumer pays the global base price? The politicians states that, but I miss the advantage to end consumer.

this is what I don't like
a country produces a product
it should have 2 values
one for domestic and one for the open market
a country shouldn't be buying its own product on global prices

If the US can't refine the oil that we drill, how does location to refineries make a difference in price.

Deno. USA refines all its own oil including shale. They have both types of refineries. True that 60% majority is heavy. The difference is that the export ban got lifted.

Why has this never been explained. This was a great clean, simple to understand explanation. This should be general knowledge to everybody, but it is the first time I have ever heard it explained and I am 60 years old. Great job thank you very very very much.

I need to know why gas price changes right now for current events happening now. Hasn’t the gas I’m pumping been bought at whatever price already?

So buying oil on a global stage is part of maintaining basic participation in the global economy, but that is just crude oil, so once we buy it, we refine it to gasoline here in the country, and depending on different locations, laws, taxes, etc. … is why there’s a fluctuation in the cost of the final product gasoline to us. Yea?

I don’t get the confusion. It’s actually pretty simple. State, local taxes and state, local regulations. Great explanation 👍

CA built a fuel system that’s more isolated and constrained—less in-state production, fewer refineries, and a special gasoline blend (CARBOB) - so it relies more on imported oil and can’t easily tap the rest of the U.S. when supply gets tight. That makes prices higher and more volatile, especially during global disruptions. NJ, by contrast, sits in the middle of a dense East Coast supply network with pipeline access, nearby refineries, and standard fuel specs—so it can source fuel more flexibly and tends to see lower, more stable prices. As for taxes, California: ~$0.70+/g (highest in the U.S.)
• New Jersey: ~$0.49/g
• Texas: ~$0.20/g
And remember: add $0.184 federal tax to all of them.
