Curiosity got the better of me, so I gave it a gentle nudge—and that’s when it shifted. Not a rock. Not dead. A perfectly camouflaged stonefish. These are considered one of the most venomous fish in the ocean. They rely on staying completely still, blending into their surroundings, and letting the world come to them. Step on one, and those dorsal spines can deliver a serious dose of venom. This one didn’t react aggressively—just a subtle movement to remind me I was looking at something very, very alive. A good reminder… in the ocean, if it looks like a rock, maybe don’t touch it.
