Enver Pasha was an important military leader and politician in the late Ottoman Empire. He was born in 1881 and became one of the most powerful figures during the early 20th century. As a leading member of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), he played a major role in the 1908 Young Turk Revolution, which restored the Ottoman constitution. Later, he became Minister of War and helped shape the empire’s military policies. During World War I, Enver Pasha decided that the Ottoman Empire should join the Central Powers, including Germany and Austria-Hungary. He believed this alliance would strengthen the empire, but the war brought heavy losses. One of his most famous military campaigns was the Battle of Sarıkamış in 1914–1915, where thousands of Ottoman soldiers died because of harsh winter conditions, poor planning, and supply problems. Enver Pasha remains a highly controversial historical figure. Historians widely agree that he shared responsibility as one of the Ottoman leaders during the period in which the Armenian Genocide took place, although the extent of his individual role is debated. His leadership during the war is also criticized for strategic mistakes that weakened the empire. After the Ottoman defeat in 1918, Enver Pasha fled the country. He later traveled to Central Asia, where he joined the Basmachi movement, which fought against Soviet rule. In 1922, he was killed in battle near present-day Tajikistan. Today, he is remembered as both a determined military leader and one of the most controversial figures in Ottoman history. | #ottomanempire #enverpasha #History #ww1 #centralpower
