To be grateful for every moment you have with loved ones and never knowing when it could be the last . It makes me think of my Nan as her one year death anniversary is coming up and missing her so much and I’m so grateful for every memory I have.

I appreciate that you care for your father in law. But it's very important that you don't make your wife carry your grief over her own father. Of course share and communicate. This is essential and you want an open space for your children to communicate effectively. But society is built in certain ways and you have a responsibility to unpack that mental labour and make sure you are being a space of safety and comfort. Your wife is clearly a very natural protector and goes straight into supporting you.
