when i saw the titanic lifeboats as a kid and thought all lifeboats looked like that the idea of being in one horrified me but like, modern lifeboats look cozy as FUCK like can i get a lifeboat suite or something?

its still crazy to me how a huge ship can even think to bring lifeboats if their not gonna make sure that the lifeboat capacity matches the main boats capacity

The reason life boats look like this rather then the rubber rafts of movies is because a man named Steven Callahan got stranded at sea for 76 days utilizing every possible way to survive when he made it back to shore he made it his life goal for anyone in his situation easier to survive so they are built to gather rain water and store it keep you out of the sun and won’t sink they have a great center of gravity and can hold a lot of people ships also carry liferafts as well but they have capacity for everyone on board including crew to live on the life boats at least a week comfortably

On a few cruises I've been on, they use those lifeboats for shore excursions and such.

I had a capstone paper on the titanic and how after it sank maritime laws changed around lifeships. So it's because of the Titanic we have these laws

Even if titanic did have the correct amount of lifeboats it still wouldn’t have saved everyone, lifeboats back then were nothing like this they were basically open top wooden canoes

They essentially are. They’re built to carry more people in harsher conditions, and be easily spotted from the air or another vessel. They also usually come with their own engines and fuel and food rations.
