A coworker of mine did something similar, but did FMLA intermittent leave and had every Friday and Monday off for an entire year. He said he preferred that than taking months off at a time.

As a therapist who is able to complete this paperwork just know the expectation is typically that you do attend therapy to improve said mental health! They ask for notes and etc and if you are not actually attending appointments your leave is likely to be denied.

Shout out to my psych and therapist they helped me with short term disability / FMLA leave - I was able to get paid the entire 12 weeks!

I am literally sitting at home on short-term disability as we speak. It is the absolute best thing I could have ever done for my mental health. I am 40 years old and this is my first time ever utilizing this ! take that FMLA and short-term disability ladies don’t let that job stress you out!

in Germany this is called burnout leave and you receive about 60% of your payment. you return when youre better. most employees dont use it though because we are encouraged to take vacation time to relax.

I work in HR, one note to add, some companies will require you to have a therapist for mental health LOA’s, and will not accept them through a primary healthcare provider. Make sure to ask what your process is through your LOA administrator.

HR lady here, you’ll likely have to take FMLA, use your existing leave and once leave runs out Short term disability will kick in (if offered by your employer) which is typically 60-70% of your base pay.
