@wafflestowine: Sorry not sorry. 🤷🏼♀️ I understand the reasoning for those who have a hard rule about school and games, we just disagree. #parenting #sportsmom #basketball #youthsports #unpopularopinion
As former HS coach ( and teacher) - if too sick for school, too sick for game or practice

You are right, this unpopular and it just teaches your kid they get to do only what they want

For people who actively parent their children, yes that is the rule.

Yes yes it does. If you can’t go to school, you can do extracurricular activities

If your child is too sick to attend school they are definitely too sick to be playing close contact games with others. If they had an appointment or there was an emergency then that is a different story and they can go.

Unfortunately usually the school disagrees on that.

Hard rule in our house no school no play. You’re a student athlete. Not an athlete student.

Some state athletic associations actually have rules that supersede your “unpopular opinion” but go off sis 🫶🏼

As a coach if the kid is too sick for school I absolutely don’t want them at my game or practice

As a coach, I always say student athlete. Student comes first.

What other than a doctors appt would be a good reason to miss school but be at practice/ a game?

They are STUDENT athletes. Being a student comes first. So, yes if they miss school they miss the game.

Unless it is an excused absence - aka college visit, scheduled doctors appointment, etc, you should NOT be attending any event.

Unpopular opinion, missing a little dribbler game because you missed school won’t keep him out of the NBA one day

Most schools have rules about attendance on game days. If you don’t attend the day before and the day of, you cannot play. That’s how it was at my school from elementary through high school.

Coach here, you miss school - don’t come to practice. I will sit you out or call for you to be picked up… and you are policy wise not allowed at the game in any “team” fashion… so respectfully disagree on this one 🥰
