Been a while since I last read P&P, but everyone clearly loved Bingley more than Darcy - Bingley was charismatic, affable, humble - and Darcy likely watched him be admired for a while since the time they were in uni together. Darcy was more so tolerated because of his wealth, and although he excused his limited social success with ‘I’m not naturally good at it’ I think it was also because of his elitism.

I don't think Darcy disliked Bingley. I do agree he was jealous and that's why he separated them. He was jealous of Bingleys open personality and his freedom. He does also think he's doing the right thing by Bingley because all of his reasons weren't wrong about the Bennets and Jane. He definitely went about things wrongly and overstepped.

After watching this I realized I always thought that Darcy believed Jane didn’t love Bingley but would marry him anyway because it would be a good match for her. This is not to say he had genuine reasons to believe this except for his own narrow-mindedness. Thank you for the video!

Because marriage is more than an emotional decision it’s also a political and financial decision. OF COURSE he’d be skeptical of Jane because she was so timid and her family made it very clear that this would be an advantageous match for them. They knew Bingley liked Jane enough to marry her and never expressed that Jane actually felt the same way. He also experienced this first hand when wickham tried to marry his sister - he tried to take advantage of his sisters feelings for him and Darcy had to fix it. Of COURSE he’d be skeptical of any woman trying to woo him or his friends. I think this also makes him trust Lizzy because she was so outright mean to him and made fun of him to his face
