No mobility practice. No joint training. No understanding of how the body actually works. Just grinding through workouts and wondering why everything was getting tighter and more painful over time. Here’s what I know now that I didn’t know then. Flexibility is not the goal. Flexibility without control is just borrowed range that the nervous system doesn’t trust and won’t let you use when it matters. The joints come first. Not the muscles. Not the fascia. The joints. Because your joints don’t have a blood supply and they rely entirely on full range movement every single day to feed the cartilage inside them. Skip that and the tissue slowly starves. Most people don’t find this out until something breaks down. The brain controls your range of motion. Not your hamstrings. Not your hip flexors. Your nervous system is making a real time decision about what range is safe based on the information it’s receiving from inside the joint. If those sensors go quiet the brain withdraws access. That’s not tightness. That’s protection. Passive stretching alone doesn’t fix it. Because passive stretching doesn’t provide the two things the nervous system needs to grant permanent access to a range. Sensory input from end range and proof of motor control there. You can stretch every day for ten years and stay exactly as tight. Most people do. What actually changes things is loading the end range with intention and doing it consistently across the whole body on a structured weekly plan. Hip rotation twice a week minimum. Internal and external. From multiple positions. This is the range that controls your knee, your lower back, and every single stride you take. Most people have never once trained it. The spine needs true segmental work. Not just bending and straightening as one unit. Flexion, extension, and rotation at each individual level. A spine that moves segmentally is a spine that stays healthy. A spine that moves as one rigid block is a spine that compensates and eventually breaks down somewhere. And then the joints specific to your own limitations. Everyone has them. The ankle that never gets trained. The shoulder that always feels impinged. The hip that clicks. Those aren’t just quirks. They’re gaps in your joint health that will eventually become injuries if you keep ignoring them. Find them. Train them. Prioritise them in your weekly structure until the gap closes. That is what I would have started with ten years ago. That is what we do inside Supple Warriors every single day. 🔱 #hipmobiility #lowbackpain #painfree #injury #mobility
