That's how my instructor taught me, but my 2008 1.3L honda jazz will not let me do that. If you don't add gas as soon as you start lifting your foot from the clutch, you will immediately stall. The steeper the hill, the more gas you need.

A manual car has a dry clutch, meaning there is no oil lubricating the clutch plates. This leads to the clutch wearing out if you slip it too much, and eventually it will need to be replaced and it is not cheap.

when I was learning hill launches, my teacher told me to look at the rev meter while pulling clutch slowly and when it changes even slightly or when the cars engine changes sound and sounds a bit more labored then you lift off the brake slowly
