@heyjuliecooks: AD | Bella’s been using the @dexcamera language learning tool since last September to supplement what she learns at her French immersion school and here are my honest reviews so far: 1) It’s great for real-life use and practice. I like knowing she’s learning words and phrases that she would actually use in her day-to-day versus a lot of the generic material you might learn in a classroom setting. Also, it has built-in LTE functionality so you can use it anywhere (no wi-fi needed). 2) We can honestly see her improve everyday through the app that tracks her progress as well as in her overall pronunciation. 3) The AI is seriously impressive—it’s super specific (ie. it won’t just translate a picture of a pizza, it’ll specify it’s a heart-shaped or pepperoni pizza!). 4) The flashcards and storytime functions are Bella’s favourite part of the tool. We limit screen time here but have a rule that she can have unlimited Dex time since she’s actively learning and not just passively watching a screen. 5) One critique is I wish it was available sooner. Bella has shown so much improvement in her French using this tool, and I think kids as young as 2 or 3 will benefit from this the most. And FYI it’s available in 16 different languages and over 20+ dialects plus they are always expanding their language offerings.
