listen, cornbread from scratch is a bread, cornbread from the box is a cake. and it's a lot less dense from scratch. that said, the butter instead of pam was 100% the correct choice! and now I'm gonna have to try cornbread with syrup lol

Sweet corn bread is just cake. Many regions of the American south make non-sweet cornBREAD with a bit of bacon drippings in a blackmiron skillet and it is dense and awesome and definitely NOT cake.
