@diaryofapetrolhead: Voicing some thoughts after my first session with my new skates, while I swap out the standard laces for some new, waxed ones. Overall, I think I’m finding the freshly sharpened blades more of a challenge than the new skates to be honest. Also, is it normal that I find the right blade feels sharper than the left? I.e. the glide feels smoother on the left foot. For a second I was worried the sharpening was not consistent on both feet. I look forward to properly breaking these in soon. #learntoskate #icehockey #beginnerskater #bauer #newskates
I would bet the stickiness is because of the sharpening. That happened to me after my second time sharpening flylites. It felt like I never skated before.

skates are always weird before you've broken them in as well as when using freshly sharpened blades

Wouldn’t worry. This happens with everyone! ☺️My friend went from hire skates (on lessons) to figure skates and she really struggled but only at first. It’s getting out of the comfort of the ones you learnt in x

I went from 4X to custom hyp2’s and they 100% had a difference and took me a minute to adjust. Time and practice will help you adjust to your skates but they have a nice feeling once you get used to them.

I hope that now you used them you can see what people were saying in the initial video. You feel like your edge is easier to find so imagine you were a ‘good’ skater it would make a world of difference

I’m in exactly same switch lol, gone from Bauer score to fly 40 as beginner. First two sessions I was like beginner I fall like 5 times. I found that in these is really important to bend knees more, it definitely allows you better control and glide. It’s just like new car lol

Hey man. Me personally if u feel like u should upgrade then u should. You made a good decision with staying with bauer but as the boot is way harder then the xlps if will definitely feel harder. Give it some time and you will definitely get used to them after a few sessions.

Quick advice: it’s not JUST a freshly sharpened skate issue, it’s that you’re getting your skates sharpened too sharp, what hollow do you go with?

I love that you've found skating and inevitably hockey once you're ready to send it. Not quite 200mph but still a rush

As someone who sells skates that's pretty common going from the xlp to something else but I wouldve gone Fly 30s but if you prefer the stiffness of the 40s and had a good bake then great
