@mrbarricade: Uncontrolled crosswalks come in a lot of different levels, and each one is trying to solve the same basic problem: how do we help people cross safely without always needing a full traffic signal? It usually starts with the basics: a marked crosswalk and curb ramps so the crossing is accessible. From there, cities can add more layers depending on how busy or risky the street is. Some locations add a center-mounted yield sign in the street to remind drivers that people in the crosswalk have priority. Others add flags that pedestrians can pick up and wave, which definitely gets attention, even if it is not the most elegant solution. If more visibility is needed, the next step is often an RRFB, a rectangular rapid flashing beacon. That is the yellow flashing light people activate with a push button to alert drivers that someone is waiting to cross. These can work really well because they are bright, obvious, and much cheaper than a full signal. And then beyond that, you get to a HAWK signal, also called a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon. That is where the crossing can actually stop traffic with red lights, giving people a much more controlled crossing on higher-speed or higher-volume roads. The right treatment depends on the pedestrian volumes, vehicle volumes, speeds, sight distance, and crash history. Not every crossing needs the same level of control. But the goal is always the same: make drivers notice, make people feel safe, and make the crossing easier to understand. So what do you think works best? A simple crosswalk? Yield signs? Flags? RRFBs? Or a full HAWK? Let me know in the comments what you have seen work and what you think does not work. #MrBarricade #UncontrolledCrosswalk #PedestrianSafety #TrafficCalming #completestreets

Are the flags more or less performative to include? If you really cared about pedestrians you would slow traffic, decrease width, etc to make to easier to cross for pedestrians

red light is best option because it forces cars to yield for walkers
