I understand what she’s saying and I completely agree that floor crossings are morally wrong, but it is technically still democratic within our system. When we vote, we effectively elect a party to make decisions on our behalf. In reality, we elect an individual, who is a member of a party, to vote for us. They are supposed to be voting for what they think is best for their constituents, but the validation only comes in the next election. Don’t like the floor crosser, vote them out. Morally, they should step down as an independent and run in a by election under the new party. But legally, they can change parties any time, and it’s still democratic.
