my only issues with EVs is that I can't afford one

I look forward to the day that EV battery material chains are basically a closed loop like 12v lead acids

Company I work for is developing a commercially viable way to break down and recycle the batteries into new fully functional batteries.

Rivian is the best car I have ever owned and this is one more reason!

I love that you always skip the part that Tesla has been working with redwood as well, your blinding bias against Tesla is ridiculous

also once that battery is done being useful, the lithium can be recycled forever just like aluminum.

Mind you normal engine cars actually haven’t seen as much advancement in comparison to EV in 2 decades we went from 2-5 mile range to 500 mile range with all the extra features of safety, grid supply for charging, an effective system to switch batteries in smaller vehicles and reduce accidents with driverless safety features. That’s SO MUCH ADVANCEMENT. This is how science works and I’m glad they aren’t stopping any time soon. Electrical cars are inevitable and fighting it is like fighting the air your breathe, eventually it will be all we can use because of dying resources

I live in Maine, so I have concerns about infrastructure and cold weather. But there are engineers working on those problems, so who knows?

This is what the Tesla power wall is, with Tesla batteries. What we REALLY need is someone to close the loop on lithium batteries but starting up a cell recycling system to recover materials.

A thing i would want when buying an ev is the knowledge that once battery technology gets better, my vehicle is ready to accomodate that in the future once it needs replacing, i see no issue owning a used electric car and swapping battery since then it could be an upgrade and make the car last way longer than any ICE car ive ever owned

There's a company that sells replacement batteries for leafs and they also sell a lot to turn your old car battery into a tower battery to run your home. A bad car battery is still a good house battery.

I love Rivian. I want one so bad and even told them to come to my town years ago. They are here now and I still cannot get one :(

People have been doing this for a while. There's a company in the UK called Connected Energy that have been doing this with old Renault EV batteries for a while.
I think Volvo are also doing this.

Dumb question: why would a battery be effective at energy storage for a grid but be past its usefulness for a car?
