A person may feel like a bad person because guilt and shame are real consequences of sin. The Bible teaches that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard, so those feelings can reflect an awareness of our need for grace. But in Christ, our identity is no longer defined by our failures.
Through Jesus’ sacrifice, our sins are washed away, and we are made new before God. That means even when someone feels unworthy, broken, or “bad,” those feelings do not override what Jesus has done. God does not see the believer as condemned; He sees them as forgiven and redeemed.
So yes, a person can feel like a bad person, but feelings are not the final truth. The final truth is that Jesus cleanses sin and offers new life. Shame says “you are your mistakes,” but Jesus says “you are forgiven.”
As Scripture says: “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18), and “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
The Christian message is not that good people earn salvation, but that sinners are made clean through Jesus.
