The rule is at least 2 hours for an international flight, 3 if you are like me an have anxiety about missing your flight and prefer waiting with a coffee in front of the gate for peace of mind. Then there are some mega airports in huge cities where I leave my hotel 5 hours before my flight, because I know getting there is gonna be a nightmare.

As a travel consultant *deep inhale* the reason why... we take all your contact details... both email and phone number... is because we ALWAYS send you notifications... on what time and how many hours before flight... you need to be at the airport... 72 hours before flight we are already sending these notifications for reminders... and somehow we still get called up and complained to that they are missing their flight because they arrived an hour before flight leaves 😭

This happened to me in Madrid …. I got there 3hrs before my flight but the lines to check the bags was soooo long and soooo slow when I got to the counter I was too late ….

I'm a person who works for an airline. The number of people who show up at the 45 minute mark and are too late to check in a bag is an every day thing. It happens multiple times a day. Please show 2 hours minimum before your flight!

My family's motto is always, domestic flights 2 hrs, international flight 4 hrs. My dad works at the airport and he's strict with this.

i don't care where I'm flying or if it's in the AM or PM, I'll always be there 3 hrs before my flight. Mostly because I don't know how crowded the airport will be or what traffic will be like on the way there. I'll just doomscroll on my phone or read until boarding.

This is all fake. Of course we can check the bag at the plane, done it a million times myself, there is no 60 minute rule, at least not in my country. And yes 45 minutes is more than fine for a small airport.
