@viewmyvegas: Liberace (1919 – 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor. At the height of his fame, from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world, with established concert residencies in Las Vegas and an international touring schedule. On April 15, 1979, he opened the world-famous Liberace Museum here in Vegas. It showcased his unique and extravagant costumes, pianos, cars and other lifestyle artifacts. It was hugely popular; at its peak, the museum was attracting up to 450,000 visitors a year and was the third most-visited attraction in Vegas after The Strip & Hoover Dam. The museum closed in 2010 "indefinitely, but not forever" according to Liberace Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Jeffrey Koep. The Liberace Foundation is still operating in Las Vegas and manages the collection, which is now primarily housed at Thriller Villa, one of Michael Jackson's former residences, and private showings can be arranged by appointment according the the Foundation website. As of 2016, Liberace's fancy automobile collection is now displayed at the "Liberace Garage" at the Hollywood Cars Museum, along with his Radio City Baldwin piano and a few more costumes. Liberace might be gone, but his tradition of over-the-top showmanship with maximal glitter and glitz is still alive and well in Vegas today. 😉✨️ #LasVegas #Vegas #Liberace #vegashistory #onthisday

My son played that mirrored piano when he was 2.Ww took him with us to the museum and he escaped his stroller. It's like it was beckoning him. He was obsessed. Ran right under the velvet ropes and started banging the keys. I was mortified.
