To conclude what you said, knowledge isn’t anything unless applied to everyday life standards and manners.

stop discouraging people to stray away from being curious or wanting to learn things. “learning” things will always naturally apply to your character and life nonetheless. learning how to bake or as simple as a formula will apply to your entire life after it’s learnt. there is no reason why we should be questioning what we learn as long as it’s ethically okay, it aligns with that persons interests, and will benefit their life in their own way. learning every single moveset in a pokemon game isn’t applicable to daily life, but why is that a bad thing?? people should be able to expand their knowledge on whatever they wish — not with the goal of some poetic strategy of “applying it to daily life”

I strongly disagree. When you read a book or understand a different point of view, even if it doesn’t change your beliefs or directly apply to your life, I still think it has value. Saying that something is a waste of time just because it didn’t transform you as a person feels too extreme; Like saying that watching a movie that didn’t change you is pointless. Consuming content, whether reading or watching, improves your reasoning simply by increasing your exposure and mental “sample size.” The value of that knowledge might not be immediately applicable when you finish, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless; it could become relevant at some point in the future. So are you really going to finish something, see that it wasn’t immediately applicable, and already judge it as a waste of time? I think that mindset is too rigid. Also, not all value is practical or immediate. Some knowledge strengthens your ability to think critically, interpret situations, and communicate better. Even if you never “use” a specific piece of information, it can shape how you analyze problems and understand people. There’s also the idea of optionality: the more you know, the more prepared you are to recognize and take advantage of opportunities when they appear. You can’t predict beforehand what will become useful later. Another point is that exposure to different ideas helps you avoid intellectual narrowness. If you only engage with what is directly useful, you risk becoming efficient but limited—good at executing, but not at adapting or innovating. Many insights come from unexpected connections between unrelated areas, and that only happens if you allow yourself to explore beyond immediate utility. Finally, judging something as “useless” right after finishing it ignores how learning actually works. Understanding often compounds over time; something that seems irrelevant today can click later when combined with new experiences. So dismissing knowledge too quickly is less a reflection of its value and more a limitation of timing.

partly disagree. can’t you just learn something out of curiosity, just to understand things beyond yourself? for me, the more i learn and try to see things beyond my own perspective and experiences, the less attached i feel to my identity. it’s like my sense of self starts to dissolve into something larger, a kind of collective oneness. the key is that you can learn from books and other sources without turning that process into part of your identity or ego. and there’s a difference between knowledge and wisdom.

Actually everytime i've learned something new i've applied it to daily life. History? Recognizing today's problems. English? Helps me get the words I want to say out. Learning psychology and how your brain works to better yourself in ways you didnt know how to before. Learning random topics so you can bring them up in a conversation later. Learning the trends so that people are easier to talk to. Doing anything in the pursuit of knowledge is a beautiful thing, I respect this mindset. But in a world where knowledge is a well sought out thing (for a reason) I will not stop learning and researching things and I dont believe anyone else should either

Learning is a life long process. We are always learning whether it’s subconscious or conscious. Learning is a fundamental structure and process that we need to live life. You can’t learn to run unless you learn to walk. You can’t walk until learn to crawl. You can’t crawl until you learn to move your arms and legs. We all started the same way. Learning knowledge is not a bad thing.

consuming knowledge feels safe and provides a sense of progress. more specifically, it gives a person the fantasy of infinite potential, akin to true freedom. but actually applying that knowledge forces you to enter a world of consequences. to change anything is to invite social friction, the high probability of failure, and the loss of a stable, intellectual identity. that infinite becomes manifestly finite. you trade the comfort of being "smart" for the vulnerability of application and definition. its not just about being afraid of failure, it's about seeking that fantastical freedom, one which we as humans will ultimately never have.

this is a dangerous mindset. not all knowledge is linearly applicable to everyday life. connections and understandings happen deep under the hood and it's hard sometimes to backtrack from where they came from. sometimes things "click" without us doing anything. I believe people should be open minded when learning. learn as much as you can, from wherever you can. you will one day start making better, more mindful decisions. you will be a kinder and more understanding person. and you will not be able to pinpoint exactly where it all came from. you will be a collection of every word you read and heard

I think it definitely depends on the content you consume. Once I’ve heard that knowledge doesn’t occupy space in one’s mind and I partly agree. By learning, we exercise our brain, helping synapsis and stimulating neuroplasicity. But there is a problem with the content people can consume. Some videos, books and information can actually make you stupider, so people should be careful with the content they consume. The information that helps your brain is the one that incites debates, critical and logical thinking. Playing games like chess or sudoku, etc. will help your brain and thus, you.

What's the point of music, movies, delicious food, and walks if they don't bring immediate satisfaction and progress? Should we abandon what "has no real value"? And who determines what is valuable and what is not?

then the problem is not about being smart but applying the smartness/intelligence you've consumed, I don't see why we should stop being smart
