not only do they have scent glands on their whiskers, they have them above their ear where the bald spots are near their ears, on their paws, and on their sides. it's not bc of tartar. they do it to claim you or whatever they're rubbing on as theirs. every time they stretch their paws out or make biscuits they're marking their scent
