It’s interesting how the top VCs and PE firms all have vastly different views. There seems to be no true consensus.

Duncan McKinnon :
So what happens when every business has to maintain all its own bespoke, vibe coded, proprietary, aging solutions to the problems that specialists would have solved and maintained? Don’t say AI, because AI has no training for maintaining its own rotting refuse indefinitely, and will need to spend time and tokens to keep it running forever.

This is only true in industries hat are already in the AI space. They have accepted the ‘pay per usage’ model. Most industries are not there. And agents are not a substitute for UI, we just aren’t anywhere near these being realities

Its strange every tech content creator says saas is dying! I mean are you really think when you talk?

People who think agents substitute for UI are devs who never actually use the tools or look deep into data.

Is this new? Pre AI I felt this was the case.

The funny thing is that even though vibe coding and integration is “easy” with AI, the two paths mentioned are not sustainable. The reason for that is because the greater the token use and agentic workflow, the much slower the code validation and QA. Many of these companies will not sustain nor solve valuable problems. Those companies that exhibit sustainability or a decent product will inevitably need to spend significant amount of money on DevSecOps and QA.

Vertical SAAS would be more important because it has proprietary data

Legacy SaaS is a melting ice cube, it's time to build for margins or build for speed.

As a employee of a major saas, this is such a stupid take from VCs so disconnected to our customers. Most of our customers hate AI and don’t see the value. Most customers are not tech savvy Silicon Valley users and instead are your average company in the Midwest who barely have any use cases with certain software. That does not mix well with AI
