Honestly if I were proposing I would buy a cheap ring and use it just for the proposal and then take my fiance and have them customize the ring to their preference. This way the element of surprise is not lost, they get the experience of selecting or designing their forever ring and the cheap one can be used during travel or saved as a keepsake.

I told my fiance what I wanted. Specified that I wanted marquise or oval bc I have stumpy fingers and need something that elongates them… a month later I happened to look over at what he was looking at and it was a round diamond. I had to say something bc round would only make my fingers look more stumpy. We had a bit of a spat bc how do you get a circle from oval when you teach geometry for a living 😅 Ended up compromising and sending him 20 different ring options that he can choose from but I won’t know which one he picked. I ended up VERY happy with what he chose in the end
