Well here is a thing: Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts. As a Saudi citizen, of course all the tiramisu I’ve eaten in my home country is halal by default alhamdulellah. When I travel abroad (Europe specially), I sometimes order it and enjoy it. Occasionally, I notice a slightly sour taste, and I tell myself it’s probably because it was prepared earlier and the flavor changed with temperature. Since I’m on vacation, I usually let it slide and don’t think much about it. Until recently I found out that the original tiramisu recipe includes alcohol—and that was the reason behind the sour taste I sometimes noticed.😫 It took me years and years to realize that may Allah grant me forgiveness.🥲🤲🏽

I'm not Muslim, but I've started reading the Qu'ran, the English translation you suggest in your pinned video, I had another translation but it wasn't very clear, this one is fantastic though, I see why you suggest it. I wanted to ask, as I know you have said before that it was reading the Qu'ran that made you convert and you knew it in your heart to be true, but was there a particular moment, or particular Surat or verse where it just started clicking in to place for you?

Here in Finland they tend to use vanilla sugar basically they cut the pods open scrape the beans out and put both into a quanity of sugar and use this in baking etc. Finding vanilla extract here took me a long while when I moved back in 2011. Perhaps you could try that for a halal vanilla option. Although you did mention not missing it.

Does vanilla extract have alcohol in it then? I hope not! I’m a recovering alcoholic sober for 12 years 🙏 and tiramisu is my favourite dessert but I can’t have it because of the alcohol! Thank you for sharing this 🙏 xx
