@bedtime.wishes: Not judging…just a few things that can make a big difference for your child’s development: 👟Footwear matters (don’t come for me 😅) I’m not a fan of Crocs for the playground ✨loose fit = less stability ✨kids grip with their toes instead of building true strength ✨can impact balance + coordination ✈️Getting there themselves > being placed If we’re always lifting kids onto equipment, they’re missing strength, coordination, and confidence-building opportunities Sliding together is NOT safer 🚫 This actually increases the risk of leg injuries if their foot gets caught 🎢Bigger equipment isn’t always better!! If it’s too advanced, kids compensate or rely on help instead of building real skills 😭Too much help A little struggle = where the learning happens. Constant assisting can take away problem-solving + independence 🤚Hand-holding everywhere Those little wobbles are what build balance and core strength None of this is about being perfect, just small shifts that support your child’s development in big ways 💕 Save this for your next park day! ✨ Follow me, Dr. Laura, for more daily pediatric PT & sleep tips! #t#toddlerdevelopmentg#grossmotorskillsp#pediatricptm#momtipsplaygroundtips

I definitely thought you were filming some random mother at the park and was critiquing her by how the video is worded

What shoes do you recommend for a 15 month with tiny feet that toe grips. I’ve tried what our PT recommends and she still does it 😅

We live by one simple rule: “if you can get on it by yourself, you can go, because it means you’ll be able to get down too.” Seems to work so far for our 4-year old mountain goat! 😄👌

how do you suggest helping with constant hand holding. my girl started taking steps at 9 months and now that she is 11 months she insists on holding my hand to walk places or she gets upset. she's still learning balance and we have hard wood floors that she's afraid of I think. Do you have any tips to help with hand holding? she will walk her play area and couch holding onto the sides and what not without me. But she won't walk on the hardwood floors independently and now it's a thing outside.

Since my son was able to walk he loved climbing ladders watching my 14 month old climb like that for sure made me grow a few grey hairs… but he’s almost 3 now and an expert and pretty much can do monkey bars…. That will be where my next grey hairs come from lol

Any tips to get my 2 year old to not get his feet caught when going down the slide alone? He doesn’t seem to understand not to put his foot down and with shoes on it could make him go flying!

Great advice. When I was a school admin, we did not allow crocs at school. They are dangerous on the playground. Kids need to be allowed to take risks. It’s up to the adults to allow them to do so safely.

i was a childminder for 14 years and fully support what your saying. i was a true believer of letting them take risks, and not helping them at the park. if they couldnt do something i wouldnt lift or assist them, but guide them by showing or explaining.
if they still couldnt do it then they werent ready for that equipment!
i would have people say oh isnt she too small for that... i would say no as she is confident in her skills from her persistently trying and trying again!

I naturally do all this stuff. My theory is if he can do it himself.. don’t do it for him 👏

Aww, I miss going to the park and having dads compliment me on my child’s monkey bar skills. Sir, my child has a daring (reckless!) nature, I have to get him to build trust in his movements for his future safety!
