This is why I have my own labeled pain scale in my phone… I’m chronically ill, so I’m usually in a 3-4/10 pain all day every day, so when I finally do go to the doctor/ER for pain, I’ve learned to live with it

For those who do not work in healthcare. This is VERY real. I work in CT so 99.9% of Abd pain pts I will see. I have walked in on them with a sandwich chips and a soda. Mid bite.

I had some surgery complications and rated my pain as an 8. 10 to me would be like basically passing out from the pain, 9 would be conscious but not really able to respond to people's questions. I hate pain scales can I feel like I always give the wrong number.

In the middle of a fibromyalgia flare right now. Spent the whole day at work at a six, no pain meds. Normal day is a three.

I had a radiology tech ask me if I really was in pain because I went from the wheelchair to their bed with ease. I told him "I'm currently on Dilaudid which has reduced my pain from a 10 to a 6" and he looked like he didn't believe me. When I was wheeled back to the ER, my nurse came over and apologized for him. Apparently he called her to tell her he thought I was faking. This nurse had seen me waiting in triage before I was assigned to her and she knew I was absolutely in pain

This is exactly my situation with my psychiatrist. I go to her talking about anything in life because my appointments are scheduled when my depression is low. Meanwhile, my psychologist has seen me at times when I can barely move, so she believes the extent of my emotional pain.
