explination here... History is fundamentally the biography of Great Men because civilization is not a product of anonymous collective effort, but the result of singular, decisive acts of creation. Without the innovators, visionaries, and leaders who forge paths where none existed, society would lack the very foundations upon which all life is built. While the 'everyday Joe' provides labor, it is the Great Man who creates the reality we inhabit. Think about it: what have you, or even your family, actually created from scratch? Nothing. You have only labored within the systems and worked on the things that other Great Men created. Whether it’s a global corporation like McDonald’s or Sonic, those are structures designed by an individual’s will, not by 'society' as a whole. If the world were filled only with laborers but lacked that rare individual to conceive the work, there would be nothing to labor off of, and humanity would be left with a vacuum. History catalogs these individuals because they are the sole source of the ideas and the willpower that drag us out of stagnation; they are the architects of existence, and without them, the world would effectively be nothing.

Great man history sucks. It’s useful every once in a while but a true great man of history comes every hundred years ish yk. There’s a lot else that goes on and most of history is devoid of great figures

Napoleon without his armies would have been nothing. Sure great men help to create history but so do their subordinates

This is nonsense. Tactics and skill have definitely made the difference, but ultimately its logistics and interpersonal relationships that drive people forward. Alexander’s mother told him he was great, would he be the same ruler without her in his ear? Without the soldiers that fought beside him? Would he have lived if people didn’t rise up to resist him? Great men stick out, but they aren’t history itself. Just a big and interesting part of it.

Ever since I was little hearing stories of Alexander The Great, Octavian, Napoleon, Justinian and others, I always felt the want to become powerful, well-known and irreplaceable. But I know I'll never be anything greater than anybody else trying to achieve the same thing as I.

I mean definitely to some degree. Like Napoleon reshaped Europe and Augustus reshaped Rome and as such Europe but I don’t think this makes sense by itself. Like what ‘Great Man’, was responsible for the global impact of the British Empire. It was more like hundreds of thousands of ‘Great Men’. But I don’t think that’s what this theory is trying to say.
