This is too real. I genuinely hated Subaru’s actions during episode 12 and 13 constantly ignoring Emilia’s requests and bringing up him saving Emilia during their argument when she never even asked to save her 😑😑.

I do agree that Subarus obsessiveness of Emilia and nice guy behavior was a flaw that he had to overcome, but I think it's also a bit wrong to fully blame him for developing such tendencies. He developed such an obsessiveness over Emilia because she was the only thing he could fully trust and latch on to during arc 2, sure beatrice remained relatively stable throughout the loops but Emilia was the only one to truly be kind towards him, without him having to behave a certain way to gain such kindness. This then developed into him expecting reciprocation back from Emilia, because that's what he got conditioned to. This is not to justify his behavior because he still chose to go against Emilias promise, but it does give an explanation on why subaru developed such tendencies, and that he isn't doing it from an inherent place of malice.

I honestly think it's incorrect to read Subaru's behaviour early on as him being a "nice guy" since the archetype of expecting and feeling deserving of something is an essence that's far closer to Regulus than it is Subaru Subaru has helper syndrome which is brought on by his low self-esteem, high self-hatred, and his compulsion to prove himself as worthy of being around other people. He doesn't go out of his way to do favours for Emilia and others because he believes that will earn him reciprocal favours, he does it because he cannot stand himself and relies on others to validate him as a human being who's worthy of companionship and love rather than his belief that he deserves nothing but torment for his existence
